Dan Berridge seems like an interesting individual. His debut album as The Broadway Project was well received by critics even with it's weird, almost ethereal feel to it. This was an album (and entire project) that was written and created while Dan was suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome. The Vessel is his follow-up and he has joined up with a vocalist named Richard Palmer. He stated that they "wanted to make an honest and heartfelt album that worked on people's deeper emotions. Music for late at night. To give you strength." I think that Dan and Richard have succeeded with The Vessel. It's a complicated album that plays with your senses. It has elements that it shares with DJ Shadow but they also look to some of the darker Miles Davis and other jazz influences. Richard's voice is quite dynamic and is a perfect fit for the twisted backgrounds that Berridge creates. There is a nice diversity here as well; tracks that get to all your senses. The Vessel does work best in a dark setting, turned up fairly loud, while you are solo. Hopefully ESL will pick up the distribution for this album as well. The Broadway Project deserves proper distribution.
