Kitchens and Bathrooms really caught my attention with their debut Utter A Sound. Their follow-up, Vehicles Beyond is pretty much a continuation of where the group was heading on Utter a Sound. This effort started out to be an EP but as a lot of EP sessions turn out, they ended up with enough material to put out another full-length album. They decided to put their distortion pedals away for Vehicles Beyond and concentrate a little more on the song structure rather than pure volume. Thats what Kitchens and Bathrooms did and as a fan of their Sonic Unyon debut I was a little disappointed. The trio grabbed me with their balls out style and Vehicles actually took a few listens to even appreciate. It kind of reminds me of Billy Mahonie. The band chose to use Daniel L. Burton (Songs: Ohia, Swearing At Motorists, Papa M) and I will say that production is very nice. The switch up from heavy to just a little guitar line is not an easy studio capture but here it is done fairly well. If this album came before Utter A Sound then they would have built us up to the brilliance of the previous album but as it stands, Vehicles is an afterthought and will please fans but likely not gain any new ones.
