It's been a while since a great black metal CD crossed my desk but that has ended with Wehrwolfe, one fucking heavy band that deserves to be heard by the metal masses. Godless We Stand is the debut album from this Charlotte, North Carolina band. Wehrwolfe is made up of former members of Darkmoon, so skill is something that these boys have. The band's take on black metal is a little more on the melodic side of things. They scream their heads off and double bass drums pound at your skull but the guitars keep it a little more accessible on all levels. Wehrwolfe's music isn't all that original though. Black metal is a hard genre to sound original though. There is only so much one can do with the sound. But when it's played properly and intensely your blood gets pumping and your aggressiveness comes out. There are no stand out tracks but Godless We Stand works on an album level. It is so often that with bands like this I have to turn it off after 3-5 tracks but Wehrwolfe has created a fully enjoyable album. What the hell is up with the name though? This album marks another first, this is the first album out on Cleopatra's new metal label, Magick. Watch for more great metal to come from this label.
