Beloved is a North Carolina based hardcore/punk band that should gain a few fans with their latest release, Failure On. This album was recorded with the famous GGGarth Richardson who has done such albums as Rage Against The Machine and Nickelback, giving Failure On a crisp studio sound. Beloved utilize a mix between sung vocals and screams, something that seems to have saturated the hardcore ballpark over the last couple years. There are elements on Failure On that seem like the band is treading down familiar waters with this sound. The sonic sounds that Beloved are capable of deserve some attention. I feel that it might be beneficial for this band to venture down the heavier path. The mix between melodic and sonic is good but it seems like Beloved end up in one direction for too long. If they were to pick one side or another they might find more success. There are some unique ideas on the album proving that Beloved do have some good ideas. "Inner Patterns" is one of those songs that stand out. If the guys in Beloved focus on these elements for their next album then they would have a winning album on their hands. As it is, Failure On sounds fairly generic with a few highlight. Beloved fans will like this and people who enjoy the new style of mellow-aggressive hardcore should dig it too. I just think that they show way more potential than what is caught on this album.
