Sunday Driver is a new band on the almost famous Doghouse Records. They are from Miami and have been gigging around since 1995. In 1999 their current drummer, Paul Trust, joined and the band has remained the same ever since. A Letter To Bryson City is an album full of interesting twists. It could easily be considered a radio friendly album but there are enough emo influences and elements in it to give it street credibility. They have some similarities to Jimmy Eat World but Sunday Driver come off even heavier than Jimmy. Some of the bands rock antics are bigger than those of Creed and Nickelback and undoubtedly better than most radio rock these days. Guitars are thick with a dual approach and drumming is bang on, making it a rocking album with substance behind it. The last track, "Sincerely" could have easily been left off the album. It's annoying and irritating and leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. There is enough of the typing noises on the intro track "Saboteur" to drive you nuts without reminding you of the noises at the end of the album. Other than that, Letter To Bryson City is a fine debut and one that should tug at the ears of some major label A&R reps out there. One final note, they did a classy job on the cover and packaging, something that many new bands forget about.
