It seems Luke Neely just can't seem to catch a break. He chose the name Lucky Motors for his solo project only to find a band in Texas with the same name. So if you got the first pressing of this album it will look like the band name is Lucky Motors. It's actually the solo project of Luke Neely, quiet, unassuming, alternative songwriter. He employed a studio drummer and a producer who played guitar and bass but the rest of the album is in fact Neely. It is actually quite an impressive CD for a solo, independent artist. The music is extremely diverse reminding me somewhat of mellower Husker Du circa Candy Apple Gray. Especially the track called "The Unbroken". Not sure if this was a bit influence but Luke's voice does show some similarities. There are many different styles at play here. Luke demonstrates that he has been paying attention to radio for the last couple of years and has taken cues from all sorts of bands to mold his own unique sound. Lucky Motors at times sounds like a singer/songwriter project and at other times like a full on rock band. Neely's voice is very apt and can adapt to the diverse styles he attempts on this album. Listen to "Born A Star" for one of the quieter tracks. I'm guessing we haven't seen the last of this 24 year old.
