I have been laughing and singing "Danger! High Voltage" for months before this album finally made it on my desk. For the most part, novelty songs like that don't make for good albums but Electric Six seems to have figured out how to make catchy rock songs while keeping the kitsch value. While not the most groundbreaking band in the world, the Detroit based quintet do have the skills to back up the hype they have been receiving over their hit. They were formerly known as The Wildbunch but had to change their name for legal reasons. You need to check out this album if you like straight ahead rock and roll along the lines of the Hives and Mooney Suzuki. They try and incorporate a disco sort of flair to their songs (apparent from their dance floor cover and songs like "Dance Commander" and "I Invented The Night") with sometimes mixed results. For the most part, Electric Six is a fun band that enjoys making music with comedic value ("Naked Pictures (of your Mother)") and back it up with solid guitar riffs and impressive songwriting. Still, the best and catchiest track on Fire is "Danger! High Voltage". It is one of the best songs I have heard this year. Lot's of songs feature the funky guitar styling like "Improper Dancing". Just when you get bored, though, they change it up. Venture out and find this album for their other single, "Gay Bar". It's a classic as well.
