Michel Amato, aka The Hacker, has been gaining fame and notoriety for his raw a stripped down techno style. Melodies En Sous-Sol (basement melodies) is his debut album but he has already released an album with Miss Kittin, to mixed reviews. This album, though, showcases his skills with a sampler and mixer creating a perfect soundtrack for 100 years from now. You may have heard his name associated with the GoodLife label. That is because he is the cofounder of the progressive techno label and is putting out a lot of the most cutting edge electronica out there right now. The music on this album is quite different than what you would expect. Some critics place The Hacker in the Electro-clash category but this music is much different than that of Ladytron. This music is pounding in the way that trance and house can be but it had a dark nature. This could be due to Michel's background in industrial music. This particular album has been available in Europe since 2000 but now that PIAS has gotten the distribution for GoodLife, it is going to get a proper release in North America. This music should appeal to those fans of industrial music as well as some drum and bass fans. It's different and deserves a listen. You will love it or hate it.
