Biffy Clyro have pretty much left their sound of Blackened Sky behind on the release of their new full-length, The Vertigo Of Bliss. On their debut they got lumped in with the grunge crowd but there was a little more going on behind the scenes with this Glasgow based band. There are so many dynamics behind Biffy Clyro that a lot of critics (including me) have a hard time with. They can be close to a hardcore sound in some of their songs and then they can turn around and do a spitting image of The Promise Ring on "Questions and Answers". I still have a hard time believing that the sound that Biffy Clyro come up with is only crafted from 3 people. That's right, they are a trio and that's it. You always hear about debut albums being hammered out in one day but how about the follow-up to a somewhat successful debut? That's what Biffy Clyro decided to do. It doesn't sound like it though. The album has respectable production qualities to it instead of the rough edged, one day recordings you sometimes get. The band trades off vocals leading to the scattered styles that you get from the band. I can't really pinpoint a better singer because all three are decent. Call it rock or call it punk, Biffy Clyro has provided us with another strong album and if they keep this up, they will indeed be found out on the other side of the ocean (North America).
