This Warp release is a welcome return to some of the cutting edge sounds that were coming out of Detroit in the early 90’s. The Other People Place is a bit of a loungy affair but there is enough grit here to get your head bobbing. The thing with Detroit techno is that it never really reached maturity. There were artists like Derrick May that took it leaps and bounds but as for the sound that was coming out of Detroit it more or less stopped with Derrick. Now you may think that there is absolutely no reason to digging in past styles that have been and gone but you really have to hear The Other People Place in order to appreciate it. It is a soothing and relaxing listen that is great to lounge around to or as background music for a cocktail party. Either way people won’t be able to help be seduced by the sultry sounds of yesteryear.
