Form of Rocket is a band that is following in a couple bands footsteps. Those bands being the highly underrated and appreciated Shellac as well as a band called Giddy Motors. Form of Rocket come to us from Salt Lake City and are about to rock your socks off. Lumber is not their first album but actually their sophomore. I missed out on their debut Se Puende Despedir a Todos, but I think I will be searching the record bins for it provided it's as decent as Lumber. Guitars, provided by Curtis Jensen are off the wall with chaotic riffing with almost no holds barred. The thing that saves Curtis' riffs is him sticking to a steady rhythm being battered out by the drummer. The vocalist sounds like Steve Albini on a good day, reminding us of what a good vocalist Steve has always been (if you can actually call it 'vocalist'). For an idea of what you may be up against, should you choose that this music is your sort of thing, the first track on the album is called "Sack of Smashed Assholes". A couple other cleverly titled tracks are "Living In A World of Change and Shit" and "The Positive Power of Negative Thinking". They could have done without the feedback at the end of the album that goes on forever. I don't care what kind of band you are, this is self-indulgent. It was when Led Zeppelin was doing and still today, people insist. Now, Form Of Rocket may be imitating bands like Shellac but we can't get angry at them. Not may people dive into this murky sound that still sounds fresh. Emo has been overdone. Murky, complicated, math-rock has yet to be done to death, thank the good lord.
