Lake Trout's resemblance to Radiohead is so apparent that it almost sounds like they are just trying to prove that anyone can do it. The problem is that Lake Trout brings even more to the table than just eerie Radiohead samples and sounds. Lake Trout was once considered a jam band by many but have slowly moved into this more experimental side of things. It is uncanny how Woody Ranere's voice can sound like Thom Yorke's. In fact, I have Hail To The Thief and Another One Lost right next to each other in my iPod playlist and it is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. Anyway, about Lake Trout's new album, it is a fine album. There is always room in my collection for more experimental rock albums like Another One Lost. There is much power in many of the songs, reminding us of where this band came from. One of my favorite tracks on the album is the second one, "Say Something". Woody's voice hits dangerous heights with his falsetto. It's almost unfortunate that Thom Yorke came before these guys. There is more to offer than what's on the surface here. The drums are one key element that may get left out. There are some pretty interesting rhythms being banged out here. Most tracks have many elements ranging from mellow to fairly aggressive, making this a very diverse listen. Once people get bored of that Oxford-based quintet, people may discover Lake Trout. Until then, people will just write them off as a copy-cat band. Unfortunate indeed.
