Obersoundz is yet another band that falls under the ever growing electroclash movement. I must say, too, that they are one of my favorite so far. Obersoundz is the pseudonym for Yem, a French-based musician who composes, produces, squeezes and arranges all the tracks. Any lyrics that you hear on the most instrumental album are written by Nick Le Quesne (author and journalist at the Times). Female vocals are provided by the lovely and talented Agat Sarahoui. PE3EPBAHO (which they say in the bio is pronounced "Reservado", go figure) was an album that was quite long in the making and Yem decided to hole himself up in a little village in France for three months. He should feel satisfied at the final Obersoundz product. It is refreshing and different enough to warrant attention. The album opens with "Cyber Dream", a bit of an ethereal song with female vocals fading in and out. "Monday" takes off next and is a little more focused, although still a little airy. One of the most powerful tracks on PE3EPBAHO is "Dirty Bastard", a song that Yem wrote in response to the endless scenes of war, crime and abuse of power that float across the nightly news. Obersoundz is a great debut and I look forward to hearing more from this one man production machine.
