Pepe Deluxe is more or less a little DJ collective that comes to us by way of Finland. Included in the group is multiple DMC champ DJ Slow and Ja Jazz as well as DJ James Spectrum filling out the band. Their sound is all over the map with a bluesy sampled track "Everybody Passes Me By" not unlike Moby's Play album and then a worldy beat track entitled "Moogjam at Cafe Liberte". The 3 members do a great job at their cut and paste style of electronica / Hip Hop. Pepe Deluxe lies somewhere between the big beat sound of Fat Boy Slim and the laid back jazzy grooves of Thievery Corporation. Next thing you know Deluxe does a laid back Serge Gainsgourg-ish track (appropriately entitled "LaFemme"). They trip around never really concentrating on any one groove for two long providing a full album of delightful mid tempo treats. Try this one on at your local Martini bar.
