The recently discovered slide guitarist known as Robert Randolph has just released his major label debut. And while Robert is known as a gospel singer, blues fans need to stand up and pay attention to this amazing guitar player. While Randolph does have a lot of exposure in the spiritual world, his whole purpose for being here is to make the world a better place and have some great inspirational music to go with it. Unclassified is a perfect soundtrack for good times with a jam band type esthetic drenched in Stevie Ray Vaughan calibre blues. You might even make some comparisons to the mighty Allman Brothers when the entire Family Band gets going with Robert. His instrument of choice is the lap steel and man, does he get rocking on it. Guitar riffs come flying at you faster than you can catch 'em. You can feel a bit of a gospel feel to Unclassified but more than anything, this is a blues album that will rock you into believing. This album is a religious experience unto itself. The final track "Run For Your Life" sticks in your head for hours after the album is over. This is a good thing considering it is an instrumental.
