A few of us are old enough to remember a certain key Canadian band called Teenage Head. Well, the band leader just happened to be the focus of this review. Dave 'Rave' DesRoches has had a bit of a break between solo albums but Everyday Magic is finally on the streets. In fact, it was 1989 when we saw the first Dave Rave solo album called Valentino's Pirates. Now don't go expecting a Teenage Head roustabout. Instead, Dave ventures towards almost a classic pop sound circa 1960's. You know, the one that has a bit of the blues in it. Sometimes he sounds like a blue-eyed singer, like on "Once In A Lifetime". Dave is looking for a sound here but comes off just sounding like he is lost in life. There are a couple of great songs on here but they are too few and far between to add this disc to a collection. The title track gets rocking pretty good with a mediocre guitar solo. If Everyday Magic sounds like your thing, have a listen to it at your local record store before picking it up. It is definitely not for everyone, especially those expecting a Teenage Head sort of sound.
