The MC known as Rasco comes our way from the Bay Area in California. Rasco is not new on the block considering his debut album came out in 1998 (Time Waits For No Man). He has made the move to the fresh label Coup D'Etat and is ready to get a fresh start. Escape From Alcatraz is a nod to one of the Bay Area's most prominent attractions. It seems like a worthy title for this slab of hip-hop. Rasco breezes through 13 tracks with some help from artists like Shake da Mayor, Charli2na, Reks, Casual, Planet Asia, and Kisha Griffin. Rasco states that "this is the first time I've felt really good about an album I've done. Like this is the best work I've actually created." Can't say if this is better than his previous output but Alcatraz is a strong album. The album is surprisingly diverse considering there aren't a lot of guest artists. Rasco's lyrics are very interesting and worth paying attention to. You can bounce pretty good to the beats (production done by Da Beatminerz). "Get Free" is the track that gets the party started but it's not until "U Got The Time" that we get a feel for what Rasco has up his sleeve. He has a similar style to the Dilated Peoples and I wouldn't be surprised if the two have shared stages in the past.
