Vancouver's Young And Sexy follow up their Stand Up For Your Mother album with Life Through One Speaker. While some of their songs end up a little more lush, there really hasn't been much progress made. Now we must remember the past of Young and Sexy. Lucy Brain and Paul Hixon Pittman were lovers but they broke up and remained close friends. Paul saw the beautiful voice in Lucy and felt that they needed to record some of his original songs. That's where this music comes from. One Speaker was recorded on Galiano Island in British Columbia, thus helping out secluded feeling that we get from this album. Imagine if their label mates The New Pornographers slowed and quieted down. You might have something close to Young and Sexy with their fun songs and their boy girl vocals. Paul and Lucy take turns and both are equally apt at singing. If you fell in love with Mother then you need to run out and get this album. Like I said earlier, the album is not much of a departure from their debut but they are getting even better at this sparse chamber pop style. I'm sure we will see Young and Sexy on a bunch of year end lists again this year.
