"Jive Turkey", what better funk song is there than that? If you have not been exposed to the funk of the Ohio Players then you need to run, not walk, out to buy Funk On Fire. This double disc anthology of one of funks greatest heroes just keeps going and going like the Energizer Bunny. These tracks were taken from the 1974 to 1978 Mercury period of the Ohio Players. What happened to the rest of their music? Doesn't matter. There is enough funk going on here to make George Clinton drool. Not only that but Ohio Players also do some pretty smooth R&B on tracks like "Honey" and "Piano Ballad (Just Right)", helping you smooth over any rough edges on your date night (preferably later on). "Fopp" kicks though, as does "Jive Turkey" or the ultra-cool "Who'd She Coo?". Sure, you get a little cheese on this double disc anthology but we are talking about the seventies here people. Cheese was inevitable. Overall, thought Ohio Players managed to stay away from it 75 percent of the time. And this is one group that kept the funk real, through the Mercury years anyway. Check it out if you are interested in funk or R&B in the least. They are a prominent figure in this music scene.
