It's been a bit of a wait but Stylish Nihilists is finally in my stereo. I caught a whiff of Christiansen on the Forensic Brothers and Sisters EP last year and have been awaiting their full-length. This album ends up extending way further beyond their EP than I could have imagined. They still show their love for At The Drive-In but I am also hearing a little of System of a Down and their spastic antics. They fit into the post-hardcore field but that seems more a matter of coincidence than ethic. The boys are growing out their hair and they mean business. There are way more harmonies on Nihilists than were on Forensic. Almost to the point of adding a sweetness to their sound. I absolutely love Brandon's vocals. If he sang for Sparta then we wouldn't have to look for the perfect band any more. In the meantime, he is singing for Christiansen, a more junior band but one that shows more promise than so many bands before it. There is just something about this album that screams sincerity. With that being said, they also have a slight bit of room to grow. Christiansen try and get extremely complicated on a couple tracks and end up stumbling, but more times than not, they pull it off. Watch for an upcoming tour.
