This album ended up in my pile of CDs unannounced and unassuming. I had never heard of Alexkid, the French born producer and multi-instrumentalist but he has been signed to F Communications for a few years now, sporadically releasing EPs and his debut album, Bienvenida. Now Alexkid is dropping his sophomore album but no fears of a slump here. Well, can't really honestly say if this is a slump as this is the first I have heard of Alexkid. Mint is a treat of electronica diversity. Don't like too much house? Not looking for an entire album of tribal beats? Can only stand a little downtempo at a time? A little soul? Then you need to check out Mint. He utilizes some fairly obscure guest artists that shine and make this more than just his album. Appearances by Hanifah Walidah (Brooklyn Funk Essentials), Lissette Alea, Ian James Whitelaw, and trumpeter Jon Hassell all add to the end product. There is funk, there is groove, there is coolness, and most of all there is good music all over Mint. This could be one of the better electronica releases I have heard this year. From the words of Alexkid "I'm looking for a pure, global sound." I think you've found it Alexis.
