The Close - It's A Secret To Everybody
The Close hit my desk with little fanfare. Just a small one page bio and that's about it. After searches on Google, I found nothing. I guess that's what happens when you choose a band name like a common word such as The Close. Anyway, I'll wing it from what's on the one-pager. The band calls Atlanta home, as of 1999 and two independent releases under their belts. They managed to hook up a deal with the obscure Moodswing records and It's A Secret To Everybody is their debut for the label. They recorded it over several months at their home studio. The music sounds like a direct cross of Clinic's strange vocal style to Modest Mouse's jerky stylings, only much calmer than both of the bands. The band consists of four members, Brooks Meek (guitar, vocals), Dustan Nigro (bass), Keefe Justice (drums), and Theresa Marie Fedor (vocals, keyboards). This is the type of music that someone could easily get caught up in. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time, so I'll take The Close at face value. There are some really great songs on here but with the brief period of time I could afford I found them scattered between some mediocre ones. Sure, If you were alloted one CD per week, The Close might be a good choice. I am alloted 15 per week. The time's just not there. You be the judge. Track this down at Moodswing's site. Actually, I couldn't even find this release on their site.
