The Rapture is a band that has so much hype gathered up over the last year that Echoes was bound to be a disappointment. With DFA producing and releasing "House Of Jealous Lovers" there was bound to be some press and anticipation over this album. I'm not sure how or why this album turned out the way it did but it seems to have critics all tied up. Some people love it (as you are supposed to), and others are more honest in their opinions. It's hard when you have an album full of mediocre songs with a few really great highlights like "Sister Savior". They incorporate a synth sound on a lot of their songs and with tracks like "Echoes" they really get motoring. A big downfall for me is the vocals. They really can't sing. What were they thinking with "Open Up You Heart"? It could be one of the worst songs I have heard this year. There a only a couple of really great songs on Echoes that deserve the hype that The Rapture has been getting, one of them being the first single, "House of Jealous Lovers". "Love Is All" is just quirky enough to work but some still may find it cheesy. And they fail miserably with "Infatuation". The Rapture need to look towards fellow post-rockers Radio 4 for what to do. Radio 4 has it down and gets the entire audience into their music. If the Rapture is around for another album, let's hope they learn from their mistakes.
