Galactic - Ruckus
I jumped onto the Galactic groove train back with their Late For The Future release, a fun and jazzy trip. A few years later and a new album under their belt, the Galactic crew have brought on Dan The Automator to add to their funk. Ruckus moves the band in a forward motion into a very interesting realm. There are some tracks that remind me of where the North Mississippi All-Stars were going. And others that sound like an Isaac Hayes track. The band claim the Meters, Professor Longhair, the Neville Brothers and Dr. John as influences and you can hear them all. Ruckus has a lot more fully realized songs giving it the potential of more hits. A track like "Tenderness" is just waiting to hit the airwaves. The first track on the album is called "Bittersweet" and it gives you an idea of how soulful this band has become. They still maintain their style of funk-jazz but they are reaching out and trying more and more styles integrating them into what they already know. Tracks like "The Moil" remind us that Galactic is also considered to be one of the finest jam bands going right now. These guys take no prisoners. If you like funky music, step on the Galactic train. Dan The Automator has these guys sounding crisp and clear. Ready to shake your ass all the way to next year.
