Tim Delaughter may currently be seeing more press and popularity from his Polyphonic Spree project that he is in but he touched many people with Tripping Daisy and their quirky alt.rock. I Am An Elastic Firecracker is an album that has stuck with me over the years. It is an album I discovered while working at a music store and everyone that listened to it fell in love with Tim's nasally voice. Tripping Daisy even had a bit of a radio hit with "I Got A Girl". The charms of the album actually exist elsewhere on Firecracker though. That single was a choreographed song that the record label required the band to include. Look towards the powerful opening track "Rocketpop" for Tripping Daisy's potential. And to prove that that song is not just a fluke, they follow it up with the intelligent "Bang". One of the band's favorite tracks to do live is "Piranha", a track that would have been a likelier candidate for a single. They had a lot of the same characteristics that early Flaming Lips had and were able to execute on them. Some fans may say Jesus Hits Like An Atom Bomb was a more impressive album. I say Firecracker was Tripping Daisy's shining moment. I had the opportunity to see Tripping Daisy twice while I was living in London, UK and they were both very impressive shows. Slid over your Tragically Hip CDs and make room for a Tripping Daisy one, most likely Elastic Firecracker.
