By now, in North America, you should have at least heard of 2 step or Garage music. It's all the rage in the UK as groups like The Streets and Audio Bullies are huge sellers there and only making a little splash on this side of the ocean. Dizzee Rascal has released an album that is bound to make some heads turn their way. And if you have yet to experience Garage or 2 Step, this is as good as any album to get you started in the genre. It is a relative of hip-hop with very defined beat. While hip hop has become commonplace in North America, garage is doing the same in England. Dizzee explodes some pretty amazing rhyming on his debut album and rivals pretty much any other hip hop/garage artist in the UK. Listen to him flip out in "Jus' A Rascal" for a showcase of his fine lyrical form. The album starts off with a nod to North American hip hop and the "Sittin' Here" track that could be pretty much standard fare for any of the Wu-Tang clan. When he hits on "Stop Dat" the garage influences erupt and his master of the craft is obvious. It is true that garage may not be for everyone but it is a nice change from standard hip hop or dance music just the same. As interesting as The Streets? Maybe not but then again, Dizzee Rascal takes Boy In Da Corner in a different direction, sticking a little closer to the hip hop realm. It's a good album that will get garage a little more exposure on these shores.
