Rae & Christian are a couple of Manchester based DJs and producers that are changing clubland by infusing hip hop elements into the groovy downtempo beats. While it doesn’t sound all that original, you have to hear Sleepwalking in order to understand what it’s all about. To start with, Rae & Christian call on the very influential hip hop artists The Pharcyde for two tracks and then right beside these ones are Bobby Womack features. Sounds totally strange until you hear it. Are you a Marvin Gaye fan? Just throw on “Get a Life featuring Bobby Womack and you will be right back in the soul era. One track that features the sultry vocals of Kate Rogers (“Not Just Anybody) would probably sound more at home on a Delerium album than this little hip hop experiment. Sleepwalking tends to be a bit loose on its theme but the variety adds to the overall charm of the album. Watch for Rae & Christian to be doing a lot of remixing in the near future because these boys can add many elements an artist would never deem possible.
