Palm Pictures has started this new Directors Label for a few select video producers. Their whole idea is to collect all the videos from these select established directors and put out the DVD. If you are like me, you have a bunch of blank video tapes with some of the coolest videos you have ever seen on them (and some not so cool). Well, when you start talking about the music video direction of Spike Jonze you may or may not know the extent of his work. Sure, he has made the move into feature length films like Being John Malkovich but every needs to start somewhere. He hooked up with the Beastie Boys early on in his career and filmed some pretty damn fine videos like "Sure Shot" and "Sabotage". Yeah, it was him that pretty much made Weezer a household name with his "Buddy Holly" video utilizing the Happy Days setting. Well, I had no idea at some of the other cool videos that he has manned. Try the funky reverse shot "Drop" by the Beatnuts or some of Fatboy Slims brilliant videos. And one of my favorite videos of all time is the Dinosaur Jr. "Feel The Pain" one, where the lead guy is playing golf downtown. This isn't just a video collection. It's all of Spike Jonze's work as a video director. 16 videos in all, with interviews, making ofs, audio commentaries and some neat rarities. This makes for a pretty cool little package. Check it out. Other cool vids include "Daft Punk", "Cannonball", "It's Oh So Quiet", and "California".
