Doing what I do, I run across some pretty awful artwork but I also remember that most of these indie recordings are done on a shoestring. Whenever I see a major label attached to a band, I tend to expect so much more, if not in music, in packaging. Lo-Pro has led to a big disappointment here. This album cover is pretty basic and boring for what lies within. The spine sports a pretty impressive (sic) Arial font for the band, label and product number. Anyway, let's get into the music. Now, out of all the mainstream metal that's littering the airwaves, Lo-Pro should reign supreme. Basically, the band is made up of Snot, Godsmack, AMEN and Ultraspank alumni and the combination of the three prove to be quite an impressive mix. I'm not really into this style but Lo-Pro might get me there. They are one of the first signings of Staind on their 413 vanity label and they may prove to be a big thing. The vocals are one of the greatest things on their debut. Pete Murray's range is very impressive. I've heard this band compared a bit to Filter but Lo-Pro seems to be a lot more consistent, at least here. While they may fall under the alt.metal category, they actually have more hooks and melodies happening than a lot of those bands. It opens up the accessibility to the band and should result in a much wider audience than some of their contemporaries. Time will tell but I think that Lo-Pro, despite the crappy cover, should hit the airwaves with this album. I would rather listen to this than Puddle of Mudd any day.
