Sister Songs may not be the best way to get introduced to a band link Radio Berlin. For me, this is the first I have heard of the Vancouver based band. They have been around since 1998 and have released a number of critically acclaimed albums. It sounds like Radio Berlin had a few setbacks and what was supposed to be a simple remix album ended up taking over two years. The album consists of three alternate versions of the tracks "Stroke", "Heart of Industry", "I Want To Fall Into Your Garden". The opening "Stroke" gives you an idea of what to expect with it's electro-pop style. "Heart" is a little mellower with female vocals being the forefront. They managed to get their buddies, Hot Hot Heat in the studio to rework the first of four remixes. "Change Your Mind" ends up sounding like a electro-clash version of Hot Hot Heat. It's probably the best track on the album. "Twelve Fingers" is almost nonexistent with barely a drone going on. Not my favorite. "Eyes Like Lenses" is reworked by a group called Beautiful Skin. It takes a little while to get going but eventually the electricity starts flowing and they create quite an interesting sound. Radio Berlin seems like a talented group and I'll be on the lookout for more stuff from them. Watch in 2004 for their new album tentatively titled Glass.
