John Crossingham was in a predicament. His band (or one of them) Raising The Fawn went into the studio to record a full-length album called The North Sea and after it was done, half of his band quit. He was frustrated because he wanted to be able to tour with the release of the album so he postponed the release. Instead, he and Scott Remila, the remaining member hit the studio again to test the waters of just the two of them. By The Warmth Of Your Flame is the result and it shows that they are quite capable of continuing. The two have opted to release this EP as a preface to the North Sea album, one they must be very proud of to put it off until after this EP is in stores. John is also a member of Broken Social Scene so he is quite versed at the epic songwriting. Songs like "The Common Cold" are so personal that it really isn't surprising that there are only two true members of Raising the Fawn. The guitar work is so sparse at times that it is almost inaudible. You can hear this on parts of "The Chicago World Expo". Raising The Fawn is a gentle band that caresses a song like a baby fawn. Some points they could have shaved some time off of their seven minute epics but their songs are fragile but can build into something beautiful and powerful. I look forward to hearing their North Sea effort.
