Snapcase - Bright Flashes
Bright Flashes isn't the follow-up to the amazing End Transmission. Instead, Snapcase has chosen to culminate all the left-overs from those sessions as well as a few "B-Sides" and covers. The album is sandwiched by a couple of End Transmission reworkings. Bright Flashes starts off with "Believe/Revolt" and ends with "Exile Etiquette". I'm actually amazed at how cohesive Bright Flashes is for a rarities album. For covers, Snapcase do a killer job on Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song". Just imagine Daryl screaming out "Coming down the mountain" in Snapcase style and you might get an idea of how powerful this song sounds. They also do a bang up job on Helmet's "Blacktop" as well as a couple of Devo tracks (one of the album's lowpoints, "Freedom of Choice" and "Gates of Steel"). A couple tracks, "Dress Rehearsal" and "Makeshift Tourniquet" are a some of the best Snapcase songs ever. I'm surprised that they didn't make the last album. Most B-side albums are rarely essential but Bright Flashes hits on all high notes. Snapcase is an originator and it even shows on this scrapbook. There are also four unreleased tracks as MP3s if you plug this into your computer.
