Chrome is a bit of a mind-fuck of an album. Nice Nice is a duo from Portland, OR made up of Jason Bueler and Mark Shirazi. They play the kind of music (or noise some may call it) that not very many people can get into. You might be able to fit Nice Nice into the post-rock category but I would liken them more to be along the lines of Avant-garde. I'd like to say that this is the sort of music that anyone could make but that's not even close to the truth. There are so many complicated sounds happening that it would make it difficult to replicate. The one thing Chrome does have is rhythm. Despite all the sounds and blips going on, there is some really great rhythms that kept me interested. That's a feat in itself. I get lost without rhythm. The opening track, "Look, You're on TV" is a good indication of what's follow. The track "Cold Sweat Part XVI" reminds me a lot of Medeski Martin and Wood with its funky beat and scronky guitar. Tracks such as "Chez Clix" loose me completely, but again, that might be the sole purpose with its spastic Mike Patton style. Nice Nice is not a band for everyone but if you are intrigued but what you have read, I'm sure you will enjoy Chrome.
