The Operators 780 come from Edmonton Alberta and are helping keep the ska movement alive with their new Power Version EP. Instead of using a large horn section like some ska bands, The Operators 780 choose to use one lonely sax. It works surprisingly well along with some talented guitar work and a tight rhythm section. Don't think of these guys as ska-punk. They are more along the lines of traditional ska, with an edge. Tracks like "Playing With Fire" show some promise of great things to come from this band. The production isn't that hot on Power Version but that is made up for with strong songs. Ska may be dead but there are still some great musicians out there making some pretty decent ska music. Underground or not, this music is fun and invigorating. I think we may see some interesting things come from this Edmonton band. A bit more originality and some more hard hitting songs should give these guys a decent following.
