The Working Title is a professional sounding band that I feel has what it takes to make it big. This youthful Charleston, SC band was together only two months before self-producing a demo for their fans. It was a mere 9 months after that that they have released their debut "real" release in the form of this 7 song EP. If that wasn't enough for the band, the actually got their track "Beloved" on the latest American Pie soundtrack. Not bad for The Working Title. The music is a cross between a emo style in the vein of Watashi Wa, or other Tooth and Nail type bands, and mainstream radio rock in the form of Matchbox 20. The production is provided by a new producer called Rick Beato and it is crystal clear. Their music is nothing too original but what they do is some catchy pop ditties that should get them some devoted fans across the US. "The Mary Getaway" is a little weak as is the piano ballad "There Is None". I think it's the crappy fading out of the drums (or drum track). "Never Forever" is one of those tracks you don't want to like but I found my tune changing with the punchy move to the chorus. I think the best track on the EP is "Thoughts On Love's Mishaps": Punchy and crisp. Watch for their major label debut on Universal out later in 2004.
