This little EP came to me with many raves on the bio. Her favorite obviously being one from a British Press Association member: "Young, wise, and surprisingly articulate...you would pay for a glimpse of her perspective." Well, I'm not totally convinced that I would pay, quite yet. Jamie Rattner indeed is a youthful piano player and songwriter. Her vocals are soft spoken but she seems to have the ability to hit on edginess. Take the opening track "Go Down", with some aggressive acoustic guitar work. It seems like a track that needs much more arrangement, almost like this song was originally much fuller and this is the "unplugged" version. One the next track, "Mother", she ends up being a lot more soft-spoken. Her key instrument, the piano comes on strong here. Jamie reminds me very much of Canadian songstress Emm Gryner. Her vocals are similar as are her piano lines, a little on the dark side of things but able to maintain a cheery side of things. Think Tori Amos but not as much sex appeal. I think Rattner has a bright future ahead of her. Piano music has never seen as much recognition as it deserves. Rattner needs to invest in a producer and arranger to give the songs a little more life and she'll have a great career.
