Looking for a great fusion of world music and western influenced beats? Look no further than Argentina's Federico Aubele. He was quite an established guitar player and composed and arranged for several pop bands in Buenos Aires. He also experimented with DJing. Very much influenced by Astor Piazzolla and other similar artists, Federico reached to electronic artists like Thievery Corporation for some outside influence. Once he had an adequate demo in his hands he decided to send it to Thievery Corporation's label ESL. Eric and Rob from TC were very impressed with what they heard and offered him a deal. Gran Hotel Buenos Aires is the result of that effort. It is a great amalgamation of dub, tango, downtempo, jazz, and so much more, all backed by Federico's amazing guitar playing. It's one of those albums where the more you listen to it, the more you get drawn into it. The track "Esta Noche" was on an ESL compilation at the close of last year. If you liked what you heard on that track, chances are that you will totally enjoy the rest of this album. It is scary to think how Aubele thinks when he is create this boundary breaking music. Great background music for working or cocktail parties.
