I always get a kick out of Solid State releases. They are an offshoot of Tooth and Nail so the Christian connotations still exist, but Solid State releases are heavy as hell (sorry). While internal religious messages may exist, the music is angry and very angst-ridden. Seriously, some of the heaviest music I have ever heard graces this label comp. If you like some of the artists that are on such labels as Victory or Revelation you definitely need to check out this sampler. Sure, they may go to church on Sundays but some Victory artists would have a hard time going head to head against bands like Demon Hunter or Stretch Arm Strong or God forbid, The Agony Scene. It might have something to do with preconceived notions about metal music. You know, biting heads off of bats, pentagrams, and Satanic worship. That might be in my way when I listen to a track like "A Broken Upper Hand" by Demon Hunter, thinking that these are indeed Christians. It's crazy but true. If you are afraid of this music because of stereotypes, do yourself a favor and just listen to a couple of these tracks. They are bloody heavy and really impressive. There is an added bonus of a video DVD with 13 of the Solid State videos.
