I don't think Moby (or V2 for that matter) got as much recognition out of his 18 album than he anticipated. People were expecting more of his archival roots and blues that he did on Play. So here comes 18, part 2. We get some of his scraps that didn't make the cut for 18. You also get a DVD with hours of Moby entertainment. I didn't get the DVD in my review package so this review will focus on the music side of things. It's actually a very cohesive effort here. I've heard mixed things about it but take away Moby's name and you have no expectations. That's the best way to enter this album. There's no "hits" here. This is more of an ambient ride through some ideas of Moby's. Who knows where these ideas would have gone if he had spent more time with them? You can kind of see Moby's thinking process with these songs. Like "Soul To Love" is a basic track with a floaty female vocal on top. Most of the tracks don't have a definitive end to them either. They just sort of fade into nothingness. Definitely not a perfect album but it does still have some life to it. These tracks work great as background music. An essential album for Moby completists but if you are just curious, you might still buy this for the DVD. I've heard that it comes complete with his full Glastonbury festival performance.
