Markus Acher is a musician that could do no wrong in my eyes. I have been a Notwist fan for a number of years after just curiously checking out one of their albums due to their cover. I've been turning people onto Notwist since then. When I saw his name on this album by Lali Puna I was totally excited. Although he has been involved in this female fronted band for a few years now, I have not heard of them. Here's what Lali Puna sounds like, a German Laetitia Sadier fronting Notwist. All of Markus' unique and interesting samples and arrangements back Lali Puna but this act is fronted by Valerie Trebeljahr. It's not as instantly like-able as Notwist but the charm does come after as little as two plays. There are mellower songs mixed with straight up rockers like "Call 1-800-Fear". Lali Puna is pop music in disguise. Tracks are so catchy that you really don't know what hits you after a couple listens. Musical sugar. Faking The Books is an album that will grow on you with every listen. You have to become familiar with Lali Puna to fully appreciate their music. Notwist fans need to check this out too.
