Seekonk - For Barbara Lee
Seekonk is a fairly new band out of Portland, Maine with some beautiful vocals provided by Shana Barry. Her vocals are very reminiscent of Hope Sandoval and I'm sure she's tired of hearing it, but is there a better indie torch singer than Hope. Some of the songs don't even go as far as adding vocals. The track "The Delivery" is completely instrumental and almost adds a nice break in the middle of the album. Seekonk is a gentle album demanding to be heard on headphones and works well as background music while working (trust me on this one). The guitars and keyboards are ever so slight on some tracks like the under-spoken "Hate The Sun". They get going a little more on "You Got What Was Coming To You". Actually, Shana sounds a little like Luna's Britta Phillips on this track. If they had to pick a single on the album it would have to be this song. "Tiny Lustre" opens up a ray of sunshine into the album. The music on For Barbara Lee is very ethereal and atmospheric leading one to believe that the band is very emotional and dark.
