Dolorean - Not Exotic
Dolorean is basically the project of one Al James from Silverton Oregon. He invited his friend Jay Clarke into the mix to flesh out his soft folk songs. And what a job they did. Not Exotic is a gentle heartbreaker that lulls you into a deep depression. The music is ever so slight with such a quiet arrangement that you sometimes forget that there is even instrumentation. When word got out that Al and Jay were working on a project, another player Ben Nugent asked if he could joint to add the drums. Even with the other players, you can tell the heartfelt sincerity that James puts into this music. There is no denying that this is his deep down, emotional feelings on display here. The music is beautiful and yet disturbing all in the same breath. It's amazing that songs can be this mellow yet this entertaining. Al's voice works so well in this manner. Think of Nick Drake but even more folky. Not Exotic is a recommended late night listen but be warned, you may fall asleep.
