With David Rawlings producing their debut album, Old Crow Medicine Show come out of the gate with much credibility. This group is a story of a grassroots band that started by busking and playing small gigs all across Canada. Their Appalachian style folk music is something that would pretty much grab anyone's attention as they wander by them, playing on a street corner. They hunkered down in a Nashville studio with Rawlings to record OCMS, one of the most perfect folk albums to surface in a very long time. Most of the songs are old traditional folk and country songs but the band has written a handful on OCMS and they are almost non-distinguishable between the traditional tracks. OCMS isn't Old Crow Medicine Show's debut. In fact they had released an album called Eutaw a couple years back. These guys are all about keeping old pre-war music alive and well, not about recreating anything. Their music is there simply to listen to and enjoy. They don't fashion themselves as people who are going to change the face of music. With that in mind, jump on the Show and ride away with tracks like "Hard To Tell" and the opener "Tell It To Me". They are total knee slappers that will bring the hootenany to life.
