Deliverance just goes to show you what a great hip hop producer that Timbaland really is. I'm not saying that former NFLer Bubba Sparxxx can't rap, quite the contrary. He's got some great lyrical skills but the highlight on his sophomore album is the hard hitting production. The beats are way out there compared to some of the others that you would hear in rap today. Have a listen to the tribal beat that dominates "She Tried" complete with a fiddle crowing in the back. And it's not like Bubba blows minds. I think people just stand flabbergasted at what he is up to here. Even Bubba lets you know that a lot of people were thinking that Bubba was going to disappear after his debut but instead Sparxxx and Timbaland drop an album even more impressive. But nothing really prepared me for the sheer brilliance of the title track. It's probably one of the catchiest hip hop tracks I have ever heard. It kicks in with the acoustic guitar and the sing-along chorus just before Bubba takes it on his own. Deliverance is a great album, not perfect but who releases perfect albums any more. Bubba has a new career here and he's going to make the best of it. Who would have thought a redneck could rap like this?
