Sirens and Condolences is one of those non-immediate listens. Bayside is from Long Island and they manage a very accessible emo/punk style that really doesn't grab you at first listen. The foursome hit the studio with J Robbins shortly after being on compilations with the likes of The Reunion Show, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Face To Face, Sparta and others. Victory was the label that signed them and Sirens and Condolences is the result of those studio sessions. This is far from a bad album it just seems to be missing something to grab your attention. I honestly listened to it about 5 times before a review spouted out. Oh, there are plenty hooks and the lyrics are melodic but It's almost as if Anthony needs to put a little more energy into his vocals. Listen to "How To Fix Everything" and you will see what I mean. Guitar hooks are abundant and Anthony's vocals are good but they seem to lack a bit of passion. They have a lot in common with earlier Promise Ring but again I think Bayside's vocals need to get a boost of adrenaline. I'm not saying that Anthony needs to start screaming but a little more passion might be all it takes. Bayside does show a lot of potential here and I'm willing to bet that we haven't seen the last of this Long Island band. Remember, this is their first full-length.

Not as great of a CD as their self-titled, but it has it's good songs and it's bad songs. The lead singer's voice has to do some maturing with this album, but for a first release, it's enough to grab your attention at first. But dont confuse this for one of those albums which you would listen to time and time again. This album is very average, which is okay for a debut CD because then it would be hard for you to fail to meet your previous album's standards. But despite all the flaws, the CD at least deserves one listen.
