The Tragically Hip are one of Canada's long kept secrets. Yeah, they have sort of made a splash in the past in other countries but here in Canada The Hip sell out stadium shows in droves. Fully Completely is the groups masterpiece. It's an album that just hits on all cylinders, singles and other songs, every song catchy and different in its own right. Gord Downie came a long way on the two previous full-length albums but Fully Completely is indeed complete. For those of you who haven't heard of The Hip you need to find this album. The band appeals to people on so many different levels. The classic rock crowd just eat up these songs but the college rock fans can notice the complexity of Downie's lyrics. Even the less popular tracks like "Pigeon Camera" and "Lionized" lend themselves to singing along quite nicely and the steady beat makes your head nod along in time. The brilliance of the couple singles on Fully Completely really shows how crafty these boys are. "Fully Completely", "Locked In The Trunk Of A Car" and "Wheat Kings" are a few of these. But my favorite track is one of the best road songs ever: "Eldorado". And a funny story, on the track "Fifty Mission Cap" Gord references a hockey card. I actually have that hockey card with the story of Bill Barilko on it. While The Tragically Hip has never really matched the album quality on this album, they have hit some really high notes with some of their singles. This album is highly, highly recommended.
