It's pretty exhilarating to hear a band this fresh and original coming from your hometown. That's right, The Mood is a Calgary based band comprised of Matthew McLeod (vocals, keys, guitar), Matty K (guitar), Jeffrey Lewis (bass), and Cameron Demman (percussion). The album starts out with the unassuming and cleverly titled "Suburban Suit Manifesto". It's gentle and builds ever so slightly in such a perfect way to introduce you to the band. Then they take off in almost a Radiohead tangent on "The Freedom Of Speech". Matthew's vocals are so unlike Thom Yorke's but the feeling I get from that song has the same qualities as Radiohead. In fact, McLeod's vocals are more reminiscent of Ed K from Live. Even some of the poorest songs like "Numbers" have a unique quality about themselves. The Mood is a welcome addition to a once again flourishing scene here in Calgary.
