People have always referred to BR549 (notice that they have taken out the terribly confusing hyphen in their name) as alt.country. They are as country as a band can get, I think. Much more country than any mainstream country artist these days. And BR549 do the best train songs ever. Yup, even better than Hank Snow. Just listen to "No Train To Memphis" for solid proof of this. The reference to alt.country may be that BR549 are so old-school that people just don't know where to put them. The track "When I Come Home" sounds like it could easily be a Hank Williams cut. The title track even sounds like an old cowboy song that Marty Robbins might have done. While BR549 really haven't come a long way in their decade plus career, they are consistent. Hopefully the band will find solace on the like-minded Dualtone label. They are a perfect fit.
