Michael Tolcher just might be the next big thing for adult alternative music. Tolcher hits your stereo by way of Lovejoy, Georgia. Originally aspiring to be an Olympic athlete, Michael was sidelined with an injury, making him focus on what he really wanted to do with his life. Music was it and it's very obvious that that is his calling with the music on I Am. Tolcher will not appeal to most of the readers of MusicEmissions because his music is way too polished. It reminds me a lot of what John Mayer is doing. There are times I'm really reminded of the Barenaked Ladies as well. I think it's the quick lyrical wordplay. Michael is really good at fitting a ton of lyrics into a single song. Listen to the first track, "Mission Responsible" for a good example of this lyrical brilliance. He is one to take an acoustic guitar and build on it albeit electronically or with large production. He likes to layer his voice as well. Something you hear a lot of on radio friendly rock. I Am has the potential of being a commercial success. Tolcher has a great songwriting knack as well as a great voice. His songwriting is not all that original but in commercial music, that isn't always an issue.
