James Hall's Pleasure Club project shares a lot of similarities to that of the Gun Club. Even beyond the music. The funny thing is that this kind of music is more relevant now then when the Gun Club was big (late 80s). There are plenty of well written songs on Here Comes The Trick that deserve your attention. They have a sound that crosses a few genres like garage rock and post-rock. James Hall has a voice that sounds pretty much comfortable with any style. The songs are really strong too. Instead of the Rapture getting all the headlines, it should be Pleasure Club. Much more talented and vocal qualities that can actually handle anything. Mark Hutner also has some guitar licks that are so cool. Listen to "Daze In Daze Out" for a example of Pleasure Club's originality. Put this alongside a track like "Good Time Girl" and there is no doubting this bands talent. And to top it off, James shows his total adaptability with the track "Marble Coast", a song that could easily become a radio hit. It's much gentler than the rest of the album. This re-release includes a live album with 8 tracks that rock even harder than the studio versions. Find this album and you won't be disappointed.
